Community Engagement Fair Introducing the Somali Community to their Neighbors & Important Resources

Dec 1 2007 - 10:00am
Dec 1 2007 - 2:00pm

This event is part of the Neighborhood Initiative for Community Engagement (NICE) grant. The project culminates the efforts of the Somali women, the neighborhood leadership and community partners at an event where resources and staff/volunteers will share information with each other and make a social connection. Somali women volunteers serve as guides and mentors to their peers and to each of the service providers and community partners, including the neighborhood association leaders, to address each Somali family’s needs for support, information and services. A halal feast, catered according to custom, will be served. Outreach to all neighborhood residents, will be conducted with the neighborhood associations and other partners.

Resource Fair Goals

• Cultural awareness and system connection;

• Knowing where to go to get help;

• Knowing how it works;

• Knowing what neighborhoods are;

• Learning about the system while we learn about each other.

Connection to and introduction of resources at the events brings Somali families, neighborhood leaders and community partners together to learn more about services, support and each other’s cultures.
