Hello Habitat Team supporters, great volunteers, and all others interested in our work!
You are invited to our second 2008 work party 9 am to noon on Saturday March 1! We got a lot of planting done on the 16th, but we still have a lot to do! We will be working at Sylvania Natural Area Park (aka SNAP). Check out ion=ViewPark... for a map of the park.
The DETAILS for March 1, 2008
Date: Saturday, March 1, 2008
Time: From 9 am until noon
Where: Meet at the parking lot 10 at PCC Sylvania! Check out http://www.pcc.edu/about/locations/sylvania/ for a map. Habitat Team Members will meet you at 9 am and walk you up 2 blocks to the park. Keep in mind that the only restrooms are up at the college.
What: Our team will perform invasive species removal in SNAP. Our focuses will be English ivy, Himalayan blackberry, and assorted other plants. We also want to keep planting in the wooded areas--we have 28 columbines, 27 wild gingers, 23 sorrels, 40 sword ferns, 20 vine maples, 60 trilliums, 3 inside-out flowers, 21 salal, 100 oregon grapes and 20 thimbleberries to plant! We also have a few random native shrubs and some skunk cabbage, piggy back plants, and other things to plant near the creek! In addition to planting, we will need some people to move and rake wood chips into a nice path from Coronado to the paved path!
Be sure to: Wear long sleeves and pants, closed shoes/boots, that can get dirty! Dress for mud, rain, and prickly plants! Wear layers of clothing, because you tend to warm up as you work. A cotton t-shirt and sweatshirt are probably not enough to stay warm. Dress to be outside for 3 hours! Eating before you come is advised, because it's hard to stay warm without fuel inside you! We will have some water and snacks for you, but we appreciate it when you bring your own refillable water bottle!
See you in the woods!
Still Waiting for the Indian Plums to bloom, April
