Creating a Neighborhood Association site on our server
If your Neighborhood Association or committee would like to create a home page on the SWNI server, please do the following:
- Create an account on this server and log-in.
- Find the menu (a block along the left edge of the screen) with your name at the top. Just an item or two from the top of that menu you should find a “New web page” menu item, under which are “Story” and other content types. Look for “book page” in this area. If you do not find it, send a note to the Server Administrator requesting “book privileges” (so you can create book pages).
- Read the FAQ pages on Creating Content; pay particular attention to the pages on Books (we generally recommend the book structure for creating neighborhood and committee sites).
- Join the Community Webmasters group.
- Add a child page to the Home Page Prototyping Area (you will need book privileges before you can do this, however). This is an area which is not easily accessible by the public, so it affords some degree of privacy while you construct your website. This page will later become your new home page, so build your entire website as a book down from this page, building whatever hierarchy you want.
- When you are ready to take your site on-line, send a note to the Server Administrator with the URI to your home page from the previous step. In about a day or two, it should be moved into place for you and your site will become publicly available.
