Our meetings are coordinated through SWNI (Southwest Neighborhoods, Inc.) but open to anyone with an interest in improving SW Portland's Emergency Preparedness. There are no residency nor NET-certification requirements. Earthquakes respect no political boundaries nor training certification status.

Our second “All-hands on-deck” NET gathering. Our first was in January, 2005. All SW NET members are invited and we hope everybody will attend. This is an opportunity to meet other NET members, share information & exchange ideas, and set our goals for the next 18-months.

Emergency Preparedness Town Hall with Commissioner Sten

We’ll have a most interesting speaker: Sheree Stewart, an Environmental Scientist and Geologist, will give a talk: Natural Disasters – Planning for Safety and Sustainability. She will be speaking about her firsthand experiences in the aftermath of hurricane Rita, and how the lessons she learned there directly apply to the earthquake risk we face in Portland. She writes:

NET refresher and advanced training in a regional setting. NET’s & CERT’s from: Beaverton, Clackamas County, Clark County, Gresham, Hillsboro, Lake Oswego, Portland, and Vancouver participating. We need 43 people to participate in the exercise, with an additional 3 people that have their HAM license, and 5 more people to play “victims.”
