Hello neighbors, another case in the works...  Over the last month PPB has received many vandalism reports in the lower Macadam area with regards to tires being cut. Specifically in the area of the Water Tower business complex (which houses Pier One Imports and Billy Bangs Pub), as well as the condo association on the other side of Macadam near the river.  Our Neighborhood Response Team Office noticed the trend in crime reports, along with the management of the Water Tower business and the homeowners association in the condo complex. Last week, Officer Bill Winters, NRT Officer for this area, swiftly reacted to the crime trend and coordinated a multi faceted surveillance effort to include Central Precinct's Street Crimes Unit, the PPB Air Unit (consisting of two Cessna Airplanes with FLIR), along with the invaluable suspect information provided by PPB Central Precinct Officer Dave Abrahamson (a Macadam area officer). The effort paid off. Tonight we conducted a fourth surveillance and took a 25 year old suspect into custody. I am confident that this person is responsible for these crimes and believe that they will come to and end with his arrest. That is all the information I can release at this time due to the on going investigation. Given the amount of damage that has been done in this area, hopefully there is some comfort knowing he is in jail as I type this!  Thanks, yet again, to all the residents and businesses in lower Macadam for making this case, we simply could not do this without your help... Brian HughesPortland Police Bureau
