FOVC Spring 2009 grant development

The website for the CWSP grants is here, to get more of an idea about the grant parameters.

Here are the things we identified at the meeting for more exploration:

  • produce video of Vermont Creek (and possibly other SW watersheds??), potentially with teen involvement
  • community outreach events, possibly piggyback on school & neighborhood efforts
  • Bio-blitz monitoring event

Please fill in the details I'm missing, and add other ideas and specifics.

Video collaboration

As mentioned above, the teen group at SWCC would be a possible collaborator on a video project.

Also, do we want this to be just Vermont, or do we want to pursue having the video cover other Fanno subwatersheds - partner with other watershed groups (main stem along B-H Hwy, Woods which goes through Maplewood Nbhd, Ash Creek, etc.)? If that's the case, we could definitely break this idea off as a separate grant and have a Vermont-specific outreach grant as well. The more the merrier?

Macroinvertebrate monitoring

Another tool I encountered at a recent meeting was a large sorting sheet that helps with macroinvertebrate identification from leaf litter.

We would place the litter in multiple areas of the creek for several days-one week before the monitoring event, and then have groups (families, classrooms, etc.?) go through the litter and ID the macros they find.
