April Hill Park Volunteers “Dig In” for Restoration Project
On October 28th, twelve volunteers from the Maplewood neighborhood came out to April Hill Park and began a new restoration project. Neighbors of the park covered 1,600 square feet of riparian area with layers of paper and woodchips and then fenced the project area with a cedar split-rail fence. The paper and woodchips will kill the existing grass and make room for native plants which will help to improve water quality in Woods Creek and create habitat for birds and other wildlife. A good time was had by all as volunteers balanced hard work with sipping hot cider and mingling with neighbors.
However, this is only the first step of the project so there is still time for you to become involved! Join us in April Hill Park on February 23rd from 9am-12pm to complete the project by planting a variety of native plants. All ages are welcome to help plant and all tools and training are provided.
