SWNI Board Minutes
October 25, 2006

Pres. Bridger convened the meeting at 7:00 pm. The agenda was approved, as were the minutes of the September meeting.
Executive Committee Business: Glenn Bridger
Glenn reminded us to vote, and contribute to SWNI (tax deductible).
Wes gave notice of a Board retreat in the first quarter of 2007 on Communications. He invites specific agenda items.
Patty reported the budget as on target.
Executive Director’s Report: Sylvia Bogert.
**Neighborhood grant applications are due Dec 1.
We expect Mayor’s office response on Visioning in Feb.
SWNI will submit a grant application for outreach to the Somali community in the West Portland Park NA.
Fall Cleanup is Nov 4 @ PDX Christian Center. Still looking for volunteers with trucks.
Net training Dec 2, 9, 16 at OHSU. Room for 12 more.
Land Use Committee:
**Things a poppin’. Get a rep to the meetings.
ABC’s of Land Use, MAC, Nov 18, 9-1.
Transportation: Patty Lee
**Sam Adams returns to committee Nov 20 to resume discussion on sidewalks. Be there. MAC 7 pm.
Schools: Will Fuller
Committee made presentation to School Board and pled for some Wilson cluster inclusion in the Lincoln Community Conversation.
Parks: Kirky Doblie
Motion by Don Baack to refer the Parks and Rec Natural Area Acquisition draft to the neighborhoods for consideration. This passed unanimously.
SW Community Center is giving SWNI (and members) a reserved spot on its bulletin board, for announcements and info.
Next: Bob Schultz, SW zone mgr for Parks: Workshop on Duniway Park upgrades, Spring Garden Park, Markam School Park, and Dickinson Park development. Wes announced fundraiser for Dickinson Park at Sweet Tomatoes, Tigard.
Crime Prevention, Public Safety, and Problem Solving. Nancy Hand
Successful goodbye to former SW crime specialists Stephanie Reynolds and Neighborhood Response Team Officers Scott Westerman and Steve Andrusko.
**November 28th @ 7 pm: Terry Poppino on “Crime Prevention through Environmental Design.”
David Gens noted that Jake brakes are still a problem on I-5. Issue needs to be taken up with new police rep.

Committee seeking 3-foot walking space on streets alongside swales.
SW bike Blvds being researched (where to put them). NAs need to speak up.

Ginny Stromer is appointed SWNI rep to Spirit of Portland Awards Committee.
Changes in Board meeting dates: November 29 and December 20.

Sellwood Bridge planning is sailing along.
**Nov 8, 7-9 pm MAC, Vancouver BC planners are coming, to discuss how they handled in-fill issues.
**Thanksgiving walk, Hillsdale, 9 am under the Oak Tree near the dance studio. All ages and dogs welcome. Refreshments.
