SWNI Board Minutes
May 23, 2007

Guests: Ken Love, Monterrey Mathis and students at OSHU Nursing School.
Pres. Bridger convened the meeting at 7:03 pm. The May agenda was approved as were the minutes of the April meeting.
Guest Speaker: Laureen Norris, Portland Recycling Program, to explain the new recycling proposal. Goals are 0% increase in waste and reduction of methane (organic materials) in landfills (mostly food waste).
Executive Committee Business:
Pres. Bridger congratulated the Board for a good year.
Treasurer’s Report. Sylvia. “Very healthy situation.” SWNI 2007-08 budget proposed. Motion to approve passed unanimously.
Wes announced SWNI Action Plan (of all NAs and the Board) for 2007-08. A motion to adopt passed.
Sylvia reported that Volunteer Recognition Day is set for June 25, 7 pm, MAC.

Spring Cleanup brought in $1504.
The Vision open house was poorly attended.
Land Use Committee. John Gibbon.
**Courtyard housing design is off the ground, to be completed Dec-Jan this year. Available to take off the shelf and use where appropriate, Innovation is to use individual land holdings for each unit, rather than condominium ownership.
Motion: That SWNI send a letter to Metro asking it to use available greenspaces money to buy vacant land at Riverview Cemetery, and along Sam Jackson Rd. Don Baack moved to refer the motion to NAs for comment. The referral failed. The main motion passed, 14-2.
Transportation. Jan Weston.
Negotiations are underway with Sam Adams’ office re the planning of the Mult. Blvd. sewer fix.
Conceptual motion to send a letter to Adams regarding TSD charges passed unanimously.
Schools: Will Fuller
First Schools Newsletter produced, to much success.
Committee will write public comment on search for new Supt.
Crime Prevention, Public Safety, and Problem Solving: Nancy Hand
**Call 823-SAFE for traffic comments to be brought to the attention of PDOT. And 823-BUMP to report potholes that need fixing.
Central Precinct will hold an open house during Multnomah Days.
Trails: Don Baack.
Much sought-for signal at Bertha Court. And BH Hwy has been included in the City budget.
Parks: Ester McGinnis.
Comm. meetings will be in SW parks during the summer.
Dickinson Park improvements made it into the City budget.
**Summer concerts will be held July 25 and Aug 1 at Willamette Park. Free (parking, too). 6:30-8:30 pm. Hot dogs for sale.
Holly Farm Park will open in Sept.
Unfinished business:
Nancy Hand presented the recommendations of the Nominating Committee for Board officers for 2007-08:
o Glenn Bridger, President;
o Ken Love, First VP;
o Tye Steinback, Second VP;
o Tom Schaper, Treasurer.
o Secretary was left open.
There being no further nominations, the Chair suggested a unanimous ballot be cast for the nominees. And it was.

David Gens announced that West Portland Park will resurrect the campaign against Jake Brakes in its sector of I-5.
