SWNI Board Minutes February 28, 2007 Attendance: Don Baack, Kathy Bambeck, Glenn Bridger, Kirky Doblie, Anne-Marie Fischer, Will Fuller, Dorothy Gage, David Gens, John Gould, Nancy Hand, Patty Lee, Marcia Leslie, Wes McMullen, Brian Russell, Jan Weston. Staff: Sylvia Bogert. Press: Fred Leeson, Oregonian; Lee Perlman, Multnomah Post. Guests: Ken Love, Jim Thayer Pres. Bridger convened the meeting at 7:02 pm. The agenda was approved with some minor additions, as were the minutes of the January meeting, with correction of the spelling of Stephenson School. Executive Committee Business: · Wes McMullen reported on the Retreat (27 attendees) and presented a motion (friendingly amended by Will Fuller) for the formation of an ad hoc committee to investigate ways that SWNI and its members can more effectively communicate with one another, and with SW residents and businesses, specific tasks to include, but not limited to: improving the SWNI Newsletter, SWNI website, other forms of communication, and exploring helpful software and hardware. This passed unanimously. David Gens, Anne Marie Fischer, and Jan Weston volunteered for the committee. · Patty reported the budget as on target. Executive Director’s Report: Sylvia Bogert. · **Sylvia is preparing a letter to Council supporting the proposed $1.3 MM increase in ONI’s budget. Get local NA’s to endorse the letter, or idea. · Charter proposal. A motion to hold an informational forum on the Charter and School Board elections was approved. · **SW food drive will occur Feb 23-Mar 18. Apprise your NAs. Land Use Committee. John Gibbon. · BH Highway planning is needed. · Comp. Plan update is coming. · Barbur Blvd planning was left off Bureau of Planning’s projects list. Why? Transportation: Patty Lee · **Criteria and spreadsheet for pedestrian improvements to local collectors and arterials were handed out. Take to NA and complete. · A motion was adopted to send a letter to BES asking for ped improvements when the sewer line along Mult Blvd is re-repaired. Schools: Will Fuller · Cynthia Harris is the new Area Director for Wilson and Jefferson cluster
schools, (except for Wilson HS, which is under the new Office of High Schools). **No present plans for SW school closures. · Possible collaboration in store for SW and Jefferson cluster schools. · The committee is starting an e-newsletter. · **Still need NA reps to serve on the Schools Committee. Will volunteers to come to your NA to make a pitch. Crime Prevention, Public Safety, and Problem Solving: Nancy Hand · Traffic safety (including ped safety) is #1 priority of the committee. **Need NA reps to serve on the CPPSPS Committee. · **Is Block Watch dead? Any interest? · Ready, Safe, Go is Saturday, April 27 at PCC Sylvania Campus Trails: Don Baack · A motion to leave notices with neighbors with sidewalks in need of repairs was defeated. · A motion to coordinate “West Portland Park” planning with other parks in the area was withdrawn. Parks: Kirky Doblie · **A motion to send a letter to Saltzman asking for all Parks land dispositions to be made subject to public processes was adopted. · A motion to coordinate local parks with planning for improvements in Tyron Creek State Park was withdrawn. · **A motion to ask for Wilson Park Pool to extend its summer and weekend public hours was approved. · A motion to the Park Bureau to coordinate the planning for Marshall Park and Maricara Park was approved. · A motion for SWNI to contribute $_ (unspecified amount) to the Park Bureau to help fund summer concerts in SW parks was defeated. Unfinished business: None New business: · **A motion to approve SWHRL as a member neighborhood of SWNI was approved, with applause. Announcements. · **Dorothy reported that the Sellwood Bridge Committee is scheduled to make a proposal by March ‘08 . · **Safety umbrellas are available.
