People on Foot Have Legal Rights
Do you enjoy walking but would like to know more about your rights as a pedestrian? Did you know that pedestrians have the right-of-way in all crosswalks, marked and unmarked? Have you almost been hit crossing the street when walking or running?
The SWTrails Committee and Elders in Action will be hosting a Pedestrian Rights Clinic on Thursday, April 23, 6:30-8 pm, Multnomah Center, 7688 SW Capitol Hwy.
The pedestrian clinic is part of the education program of the Willamette Pedestrian Coalition (WPC). The presentation provides walkers, runners, seniors, disabled, parents, and dog walkers with the information needed for themselves and their children to safely navigate our sidewalks and crosswalks. The clinic will educate pedestrians on how to walk safely, the laws that protect them, the recourses available to them in the event of a crash, and an opportunity to ask questions.
The presentation is a joint project of WPC and Ray Thomas, a lawyer and safety activist with Swanson, Thomas and Coon.
