This page to be deleted... how does one delete a page when there is no Delete button for it on its edit tab?

First off, you have discovered something i was unaware of (i.e. the problem deleting one's own book pages). In fact, it seems to me this was not originally the case. Right off hand, the cause of this is not obvious to me, so it will take some more digging on my part. It could be a bug in the book module. ... So there is no reason you couldn't simply move your accidentally created child page into service elsewhere.
