The Habitat Restoration Team also has a planning group that organize the work parties and some grant writing this quarter, if you want to get more involved.

Come join students, staff, and Far Southwest neighbors to work to make Sylvania Natural Area Park free of English ivy and other invasive species! Please dress for mud, prickles, and the weather! Bring water! We hope to have yummy snacks and funny prizes! We meet at 9 am in Parking Lot 10 of PCC Sylvania and volunteers will orient you and walk you two blocks to the park. Marshall Park Notice Board Work Party 28-Feb-2009

On 28-Feb-2009, over 15 neighbors gathered to celebrate the new Notice Board in Marshall Park.   This board was made possible by a grant from SWNI.   It will be an information center and meeting place for neighbors and park users.   In addition to admiring the sign, the group also pulled blackberries and weeds from the slope around the sign, and replaced them with

Help the PCC Sylvania Habitat Restoration Team remove invasive species from SNAP! We will focus on English ivy, English holly, herb robert, and Himalayan blackberry removal around native plants that we will be trying to save. Please dress appropriately to the weather for staying outside for 3 hours. Long sleeves and pants that can get muddy or caught by a thorn are suggested along with sturdy footwear. Bring your favorite tools, gloves, and some water. We will have some snacks, some tools, and gloves as well. We usually meet at 9 am for an introduction at PCC Sylvania, Parking Lot 10, and we walk down to the park from there. Restrooms are at the college. You are welcome to meet us at the park as well (a little bit after 9 am). p.s. This is our Earth Day event and the Habitat Team's 12th birthday! Woo hoo!

Come on an interpretative tour and learn about how native plants are being used to maintain healthy streams and habitat along Bridlemile Creek. Habitat that supports trillium, red-tail hawks, frogs, towering firs and hemlocks, and which helps support cutthroat trout and clean water further down in Fanno Creek too.
After the tour please join with Bridlemile Creek Stewards, students, parents, and neighbors to help maintain this stream restoration project by removing blackberry, clematis, ivy and other invasive plants. See how this successful restoration project is progressing.

They will be beautifully constructed of salvaged timber and re-used lumber. Come lend a hand, especially if you have some carpentry experience or want to learn! Bring: clothes for working outdoors, snacks, water, etc. Who: Carpentry novices to experts AND anyone wanting to be involved in building the kiosks! YOU!

In January 2006 one Tsuga heterophylla 24" tall was planted by volunteers in Albert Kelly Park; that Hemlock tree is now six (6') feet tall and growing. Join with the Bridlemile Creek Stewards, students, parents, and neighbors to do some infill planting and if time allows remove a few invasive plant resprouts. See how this successful restoration project is progressing. Tools and refreshments will be provided. Dress for the weather. Note that this event qualifies students for Community Service hours.
