Community Flyer Campaign Sign Up

The Communications Committee of the HNA will be taking on the responsibility of creating, requesting funding for, and distributing a Community Flyer. Currently the thought is to create something that can be attached to the doors of our neighbors to let them know more about the HNA and what opportunities exist within the organization (especially now that we have more leadership roles opening). The goal would be to have this distributed by May so that as many interested parties can attend the election of certain seats on the Board of Directors in June.

I encourage anyone who is interested to volunteer, but I do want to give warning that signing-up does not automatically make you a part of the group. As President, I will appoint members to the committees based on who signs-up and other factors. I hope you will consider volunteering.

Nominating Committee Sign Up

This group of volunteers will be tasked with scouring Hillsdale for candidates of certain seats on the Board of Directors in June. The HNA Board has a two-year term with half of its members being elected each year. This year the odd numbers Board seats will be available. Those include: (1) Matt DeRosa, (3) Robert Hamilton, (4) Jose Gamero, (5) Leslie Pohl-Kosbau, (7) Eric Wilhelm, (9) Tatiana Lifshitz, (11) Barbara Bowers, and (13) Joan Hamilton -all of whom are welcome to run for another term in office.

I encourage anyone who is interested to volunteer, but I do want to give warning that signing-up does not automatically make you a part of the group. As President, I will appoint members to the committees based on who signs-up and other factors. I hope you will consider volunteering.

HNA Meetings in May 2019
An announcement from Matt DeRosa, HNA President

In May, I am asking for a change of pace. Rather than having a scheduled General Meeting, I am asking that the HNA Committee Chairs* schedule their own meeting of the committee. I will give more details later, but in brief each committee will be asked to: draft an agenda at least 7-days in advance of the meeting, task someone with keeping the minutes, developing a Short Term (18 months or less) list of goals, developing a Long Term (5-10 years) list of goals, drafting a committee values statement to be adopted by the board, and drafting a 1-2 paragraph 'blurb' for the website. Chairs may schedule their meeting on any day in May (though I have recommend avoiding the last week as June elections may get folks sidetracked). I am making this one-month change up for two reasons.

1) I want to have the Committees begin the 2019/2020 HNA Year with some momentum. Creating a list of goals and drafting a values statement will help keep the committee on task and recruit new volunteers.

2) I want to distribute the ownership of our direction to the Board and to HNA members. Right now, I am tasked with carrying out our vision, and I feel like that task is too challenging for any one person. Personally, I believe the distribution of ownership may account for the HNA's attrition in leadership positions. I think it is important for members to feel like they truly have an avenue to engage with the HNA on matters that are more meaningful to them, and this committee structure is a way to do this.

This year has been a period of transition for the Committee structure, and I want to see us leave the 2018/2019 year with this structure more solidified. I think it will be a way to engage more neighbors and create a more welcoming, engaging, and productive HNA experience.
