Multnomah Street Art Project

SUMMARY

 Link to Instagram profile

The Multnomah Neighborhood Association (MNA) was recently approved for sponsorship money to fund civic engagement and the creation of safety-focused placemaking art projects in highly traveled pedestrian areas of the Multnomah Neighborhood (e.g., street intersection murals). A 5-person artist selection committee has chosen Amaranta Colindres (Website, Instagram) as the mural artist who will create a street mural design in dialog with the community to be painted June 17 (see below). A series of events through August 2023 will:

  • Build community among diverse neighbors.
  • Create art in public spaces.
  • Center the voices of artist(s) from historically underserved communities in SW Portland.
  • Participate in the City Repair Project 2023 Village Building Convergence (see schedule).
  • Include an education component about pedestrian safety and more.
  • Connect residents to local government (e.g., PBOT) to have their voices heard when it comes to walking, biking and rolling in SW Portland.
  • Link to more.

Celebrate with City Repair at a volunteer style block party afterward (details coming).  This event is a part of City Repair’s annual Village Building Convergence.  If needed rain delay backup  painting day will be Saturday July 1.  Please email communityevents@mnapdx.org if you are interested in showing up to help paint!

  • SUNDAY, JULY 2 (TIME TBD)
    VISIONING WALK WITH CITY REPAIR

Save the date for a hosted community walk with MNA and City Repair.  The goal is to visit several points of interest in the south  multnomah neighborhood and brainstorm, as a group, what these spaces could become. One area of interest is the intersection of SW 35th Ave & Falcon Street just off Multnomah BLVD behind the food trucks.  PBOT has recently secured funds to permanently close the Falcon slip lane at that intersection, which will result in a large space that is no longer used by cars and will be in need of creative repurposing. Come bring your creative input and hear ideas!
