What SWNI changes for your team

Your neighborhood association still makes its own decisions about land use letters, budgets, and local projects. SWNI helps with printing flyers, posting meeting packets, sharing grant openings, and answering routine questions about Portland recognition rules. Keep questions specific when you email staff so you get a faster reply.

Seven steps when you start volunteering

  1. Open the Portland southwest neighborhood associations list and locate your group so you know which coalition seat it fills.
  2. Ask your president when the next general meeting and board retreat occur, and whether SWNI already covers your annual dues to the city coalition.
  3. Skim the Resources hub for PDFs about open meetings, city code references, and public notice timelines.
  4. File early if you plan to request coalition funds, and attach maps or photos when they help reviewers see the need.
  5. Coordinate with your transportation or land use chair before SWNI staff routes a concern to Portland bureaus, so the note matches board direction.
  6. Bookmark the training archive for Robert's Rules crib sheets, facilitator plans, and past workshop slides.
  7. Use the Contact page for staff emails when you need room keys at the Multnomah Arts Center or help filling out a grant budget grid.

Grant money in plain language

SWNI distributes coalition grants that neighborhoods use for tools, safety supplies, outreach mailers, and modest park projects. Read current categories and forms on the Grants page, then talk with your treasurer about insurance receipts and matching volunteer hours.
